Should people have to suffer with mental illness just because they can’t afford mental health? Some of your friends, neighbors, and family members don’t have health insurance, but they have mental health needs that won’t get better without treatment. Because of cuts in government funding, Concord Counseling has had to institute waiting lists for those who may need it desperately! Without additional funding: Your friend’s sister won’t be able to immediately talk to a counselor about her depression. Your coworker’s son will have to wait to deal with his anger until “later.” Your elderly neighbor will have to give up her independence just because she can’t put off going to the grocery store for sixty days. You can help! You can help make sure that people who need help don’t have to wait until things get worse, just because they can’t afford it. A gift of $72 ($7.50 per month) would cut the time a father of three young children has to wait to face his addiction and learn to live without abusing drugs and alcohol. A gift of $138 ($11.50 per month) would reduce the wait for a teenager to deal with his anger so his mother would not have to be afraid of him. A gift of $53 would help shorten the time that a young girl had to suffer with an eating disorder before seeing a counselor.
